Dr. Martin Luther King Day Online Example Assignment

Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday is coming up soon.  In order to honor one of America's greatest heroes, we will be learning more about Dr. King today.

 

In order to understand some important concepts in today's assignment we will look up these words today in this internet dictionary and write down the definitions in your social studies notebook.

 

1. Write definition # 3 of Justice.

 

2.  Write the definition of the word reform.

 

3.  Write the definition of the word activist.

 

4.  Write the definition of the word segregation.

 

5.  Write the definition of the word discrimination.

Next go to read about Dr. Kings letter from jail  

   King in jail

 

 

Now go to do page two of the mlk assignment.  If it is too difficult to type the answers you may write the answers in your social studies notebook. 

 

 

When you are finished with all of the questions of the mlk assignment watch the tribute to Dr. King.  Be prepared to discuss the I have a dream speech in community circle when we return to class. 

 

 

The final section of this assignment will be to memorize the following poem that we will recite on Friday with the whole third grade.

Treat people kindly

Do what is fair

Work for all people

Show that you care

 

Change what is wrong

But please do not fight

Think of new ways

to change wrong to right

 

These are the ways

If we work as a team

To remember the man

Who said, "I Have A Dream!"

 

 

 

Extra Credit:  go to Dr. Kings photo essay and scroll through the pictures.  When you are finished, write one page in your sourcebook.  Write what you would say to  Dr. Martin Luther King if you could talk to him at dinner tonight.
