Building Your Own Website

Do you have what it takes?

Have you ever written an email?

Have you ever surfed the web?

Have you ever created a Word document?

Then you have what it takes to create a web page with pbwiki.

Where do you begin?

1.  Start with opening pbwiki.com and follow the simple instructions.

2.  You will need to come up with a simple name for your site.  You may want to use something as easy as the first letter of your first name followed by your last name.

3.  Check your email to get confirmation and your site will be opened.

What about editing?

1.  Start with clicking the edit button on FrontPage (your default home page).

2.  Now that it is open, it is just like a word document that you can use for writing, creating hyperlinks, and much, much more.

How do you create a hyperlink?

1.  Start with finding the web address that you want to link.  Select the entire address and copy it using Ctrl + C.

2.  Put your cursor where you want the link to be on your page.

3.  Now, click on the Link button in the tool bar (it's right next to the Insert Image button).

4.  A new window will open up.  Choose Link Type --> URL.

5.  In the URL box paste the address of the website using Ctrl + V.

6.  In the Link Text box, write what you want the link to be called.  For example if the address is http://pbwiki.com/ the Link Text could be pbwiki.

7.  After you have created a hyperlink, you can type text next to it to describe it.

Tip:  You can also cut and paste by right clicking and selecting cut and paste.

What else can I do?

Your new website is a place where you can direct student learning through online activities.  Once your website is ready to go public, let Joy know and your website will get its own link from our school website.  The realm of possibilities is vast.  You can upload pictures, share videos, and even add google gadgets.  If you want more ideas about how to explore the power of your pbwiki or if you have any questions, feel free to call on Joy Dardenelle or John Collins.
